It definitely wasn’t me. Spent a grand total of about 5 hours chipping ice away from the cars, shoveling and clearing the driveway. I’m expecting to need at least another hour to transform the driveway and front walk into something that doesn’t resemble a skating rink, and then another hour on top of that to grade the backyard in such a way that allows it to drain. Oooooh the joy.

The roads were fine today, and I’m expecting the drive home to be uneventful. I think a lot of people still stayed home, and a lot of the schools were still closed. Sarah and I are hopefully venturing out tonight for a dinner sans-E and using one of our Christmas giftcards… and then going grocery shopping. We’re down to the bottom of the cupboards…

They say we should expect more snow flurries today and tomorrow, but nothing should accumulate. We’ll see about that…

I heart snow. Unless I need to shovel it…

Stayed home yesterday due to 4-6″ of white stuff and freezing rain expected later in the day. This is our first real snow of the season, and THIS time I had a snow shovel.

I was actually planning on going in –well, I was about 50-60% — until I saw the traffic cams on I-71N. Cars spun out in all directions, 18-wheelers stuck on inclines, etc… it was RIDICULOUS. So, it was a semi-quite day at home — I worked while Ethan busied himself in a variety of things, and Sarah read/slept/supervised the Munchkin. I actually put in a full day, so I got to save some vacation.

Today is MUCH worse. Freezing rain all night and this morning, then changed over to snow. What was fun for the doggies yesterday was now a travel adventure. They obviously were NOT happy, but I did get them to go out and take care of things… and I know RIGHT where they did it, too, thanks to the pure white canvas.

F+W was closed today probably due to a power outage, so I’m attempting to do a little work sans-Email, but officially it’s a “day off”. YAHOO! Luckily (knock on ice) our power is still on, so I can surf and do some other general research and things from here, and since I have some things to do in order to catch up, I’m grateful for the opportunity.

Sarah called me upstairs around 9:30a or so when she was going up for a shower with.. “Jeff, comeup here right now…” The tone in her voice was distressing. My first thought was that something had happened with the dogs — like they had dug stuff out of the trash, or one of them had cut themselves and was bleeding (a common occurrance), or there was something else that had happened. Then it flashed through my mind — storm damage. Uh oh…

I was right…

From Winter 08

Not too bad, but Sarah’s car had escaped a monstrous falling tree branch from our front tree. [picture coming]. It was actually expected, and we should have thought to move the cars sooner. Well, I didn’t wait any longer… I tramped right out there in the snow and ice, dug out all three cars and moved them up in the driveway, as far away from the tree as possible. Hopefully it’s far enough. Let me tell you — it was no easy task. I’m popping the Advil as I type this, and I think it’s time for another cup of coffee so I can warm up. I might even get some work done as soon as my toes warm up.

It’s not the fact that they lost… I’m used to that. (4 NFC Title game losses in 10 years). It’s more the fact that the game was definitely WINNABLE and that the defense that showed up in the first half vs the Cardinals wasn’t the Eagles. I don’t know who they were…

McNabb should be praised for his drives in the second half, but there were plenty of poorly thrown balls during the game that would have made a difference had they been on target. I’m not sure what it is with him — but I’m a fan, always have been, and although I’m down on him now, he is a class act and I’ll live and die with the guy. As far as I’m concerned, as long as he wants to stay in Philly, he’s welcome here.
