Today I had a day off — for the first time, although it’s hard to believe, I was able to “celebrate” Martin Luther King Day. So we did what every other self-respecting American would do… we went to get ice cream at Jeni’s. In Columbus. Hey — what’s more American than ice cream???  :-)

Honestly, a lot of reflecting occurred a day earlier at church on Sunday. Once of the songs they used before the service was a fantastic version of Pride (In The Name of Love), originally by U2. I never really knew that this song was a tribute to MLK until I had played it with my band for about 2-3 years. After I discovered what Bono was really singing about, it opened up a whole new meaning to the song’s fantastic lyrics. I never looked at the song the same way again… and it became even MORE inspiring to play.

I had never heard this version by John Legend until this past weekend… and I’m glad I finally did hear it. Sarah’s fancy dancy little Droid app called “Shazam” informs us that it was on the Obama-inspired “Yes We Can” album.

Late afternoon, April 4
Shots ring out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride…

In the Name of Love,
What more in the name of love?
